ASK Foundation Accomplishments for 2015

2015 was a busy and productive year for the ASK Foundation! Below is a recap of our accomplishments:

SKATEPARK CLEAN UPS

  • McBride Skate Park
  • Houghton Skate Park
  • Michael K. Green Skate Park
  • Bixby Skate park
  • El Dorado skate park for Councilmember Stacy Mungos’s Long Beach
  • Volunteer Day

BEACH STREETS LONG BEACH

  • Attended planning meeting with ASK interns.
  • Sponsored a skate park demo at Houghton Skate Park.

ASK FOUNDATION “ROAD TRIPS”

  • Organized skate trips to LA and San Diego skate parks with a chosen team leader for each trip.

WILMORE CITY NEIGHBORHOOD MEETING

  • ASK video presentation and discussed new skate park at Drake Park with our team participation.

PROCLAMATION FROM MAYOR GARCIA FOR ASK EFFORTS

  • Youth attended council meeting for presentation.

PRESENTATION AT PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION

  • Presentation by ASK intern Team Captain Alberth Mimila.

PRESENTATION AT LONG BEACH COMMISSION ON YOUTH AND CHILDREN

  • Presentation by Team members Alberth Mimila, Brandon Minton and Sean Valle.

LONG BEACH CONVENTION AND VISITORS BUREAU SANDY AWARDS

  • Submitted a video on “What Excites You About Long Beach” by Alberth Mimila and Orlando Garcia. Each youth won $500.00..

ABC CHANNEL 7 “COOL KIDS” SEGMENT

  • ASK Team Captain and intern Alberth Mimila was featured due to his efforts with Habitat for Humanity and ASK Foundation.

CO-SPONSORED EM3 BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT

ASK CO-SPONSORED “BIG BANG ON THE BAY”

  • Raised $22,000.00 for ASK and donated $4000 to “Feed the Children”, $1,400 to feed US Service Personnel at event..

COUNCILMAN AL AUSTIN’S “BACK TO SCHOOL SUMMER BLAST”

  • Donated 30 bags of product for event.

FUNDED 2 AP (brother and sister) students at Wilson High School, providing laptop, printer, books and school supplies.

PROVIDED school supplies and uniform for one student at Hudson School and one student at Cabrillo High.

SKATEPARK CLEAN UP WITH LB HEALTH AND HUMAN SERVICES TOBACCO FREE EDUCTION PROGRAM

SET UP MONTHLY TEAM MEETINGS THE SECOND SATURDAY OF EACH MONTH AT MCBRIDE PARK.

  • WE HAVE MOTAVATIONAL GUEST SPEAKERS AND WORK SHOPS ON HOW TO MOVE FORWARD WITH ASK FOUNDATION..

Provided 130 pair of shoes to low income/at-risk youth.

Provided over $6,000.00 in food and lunches for our kids.
