Recap of accomplishments for ASK in 2012

Action Sports Kids Foundation had an amazing 2012.
Here is a recap of our year. And stay tuned for an even MORE amazing 2013!

  • Hosted a sk8/BMX demo for inner city kids to perform at Formula
    Drift Race
  • Received 250 skateboards and helmets from Tony Hawk Foundation and
    United Healthcare that allowed us to:
    • Sponsored an essay contest and safety program at Jefferson
      Middle School and gave out 55 skateboards and helmets.
    • Sponsored safety and skateboarding lessons at all summer events
      for kids 11 and under. Gave free skateboards and helmets to all
      particating kids.
    • Donated helmets to various youth groups.
  • Co-sponsored the Hood Games with Long Beach Parks and Recreation: An interactive skate and art event at Bixby Park for young children
  • Sponsored 4 summer BMX/skate competitons. We fed over 2500 kids,
    gave out free product and more than 3000 attended our events.
  • Co-sponsored the “Art in Motion” event with Arts Council for Long Beach at Mike
    Green Skatepark
    . Kids from local schools displayed art, had live
    street art, free food and giveaways and a mini contest in the skate
  • Co-sponsored Autism in Long Beach Bully-Free Zone picnic at Houghton Park. Arranged lessons, gave skateboards and helmets to autistic children
    and their siblings.
  • Donated, replaced, and repaired elements at skateparks.
  • Participated in park and skatepark clean-ups.
  • Co-sponsored Go Skate Day with Autism in Long Beach for autitstic
    chldren and their siblings.
  • Co-sponsored skate and BMX events with Etnies shoes, Element
    , Casio G-shock watches, Gatorade, and Nike. Entertaining 1000 kids, free food and giveaways.
  • Hosted group of kids at Tony Hawk's Stand Up for Skateparks in Beverly
  • Hosted a group of kids at Formula Drift Race in irwindale
  • Hosted 60 kids from Canada. Did a skate park and neighborhood clean
    up at mike green skatepark with our local kids and hosted a beach
    party at Bolsa Chica State Beach with the canadians.
  • Sponsored the Jeffery Dempsey JR. Memorial AM Jam at Mcbride Skatepark and recognized 3 youth with dollars and product for their contribution and help with what we do and being roll models in our
  • Hosted a group of kids at Elemental Awareness Scholarship Program
    teaching kids life learning skills
  • Assisted in rallying 100’s of youth to remember one of our own for
    the media. 4 networks attended. Charley Ford was shot and killed
    this year and was a huge loss to our kids. We will name our August
    event in his memory. Also working with Woodward Youth Camps to
    create the Charley Ford memorial Scholorship to take several kids to
    Woodward Camp that offers skate/BMX and life learning skills.
  • All this and keeping kids in school, earning community service hours,
    safe, off the streets and out of gangs. creating roll models in some
    of the most dangerous neighborhoods in Long Bead. Our efforts have given
    Long Beach the recognition as having the most succesfull skate park program in
    the country.
  • Through our skateparks we give inner city kids the opportunity to give back and particapate in their community through arts, education and sports.
  • Working to fill the void created by the elemination of many youth activities and programs in our schools and parks…all at no cost the city or our school district!
